How to Photograph Skateboard Wall Art: Light and Glare

Skateboarding

Photographing skateboard wall art depends on light, viewpoint and accurate presentation. A phone can be enough for sharing an installation or recording its condition.

Begin with soft light

Try indirect daylight and switch off competing lamps if they create a different colour cast. Avoid strong reflections that hide the printed image.

Look at the photograph as well as the object. If one part appears washed out, move the light or camera rather than assuming the graphic itself is faded.

Keep the shape believable

For a clear record, position the camera near the centre of the deck and keep it as square to the artwork as possible. A wide-angle view from very close can exaggerate the ends.

A slightly angled photograph can help reveal thickness or reduce reflections, but include a straight-on view too.

Show the complete object

Take one photograph of the whole deck and additional images of important details. For a diptych or triptych, show the full set in its intended order.

If documenting condition, include the back, edges and any marks. Do not crop damage out of a resale listing.

Keep editing modest

Adjust exposure and framing without changing the colours or removing surface defects. Compare the result with the object under neutral light.

A consistent setup makes photographs easier to compare over time. It is more useful than adding dramatic filters that misrepresent the print.
