How to Spot Fake Skateboard Art: 10 Checks for Buyers

skateboard art

Checking skateboard art for authenticity means evaluating the product and its source. These ten checks can reveal questions to investigate, but they are not a formula that labels every inexpensive item fake.

Identity and attribution

1. Confirm the exact product type. 2. Identify the artist or original work. 3. Check who produced the deck. A printed reproduction should not be sold as an original painting.

Photographs and specifications

4. Ask for clear images of both sides and the edges. 5. Compare dimensions and materials with the claimed model. 6. Check visible print detail and condition.

A poor photograph may require clarification; it does not prove counterfeiting on its own.

Edition and history

7. Verify any edition claim with the producing source. 8. Request provenance where the item's age or history affects the purchase.

An older graphic on a new reissue is not necessarily deceptive if it is described accurately.

Seller and authorisation

9. Check seller details and current policies. 10. Seek confirmation of authorisation for contemporary designs when it matters to the listing.

A signature or certificate needs a verifiable issuer and connection to the object.

Resolve uncertainty before buying

Compare with official artist or brand information. If a high-value attribution remains uncertain, seek a relevant specialist.

Price is context, not proof. New brands can produce legitimate work, and expensive listings can still contain misleading descriptions.

Keep the evidence and product information after purchase so you can describe the deck accurately later.
